Pacific Adventist University (PAU) Academic Calendar

The Pacific Adventist University (PAU) academic calendar runs on a two-semester basis with a mid-semester break in the middle. Summer programs run during December to cater the international conferences and post-graduate (intensive) courses on campus.

The general calendar year is as flows:

  • January – February: Staff Commencement, Registrations and Orientation
  • March: Semester One Starts and Graduation
  • Aril: Mid-semester break
  • June – July: Mid-year break
  • August: Semester two starts
  • Last week August/Early September: Deadline for submitting for 2021 (new) intake
  • September: Mid-semester break
  • November: Academic year Ends
  • December – January/New Year: Summer programs

PAU APPLICATIONS for 2021 (new academic year) closes at the end of August – so if you want to apply to study at PAU, make sure you apply before the due date.

Schools and Courses Information

Schools Arts and Humanities
The Bachelor of Arts program is a multi-disciplinary program that runs for four years. The BA program prepares the students for employment in the public service, government, private and development and non-government agencies.

School of Business
The Bachelor of Business at PAU is comprised of three programs/awards: BA Business (major Accounting), BA Business (major Accounting/Computing) and BA Business (major Accounting/Management).

The School of Business runs the two post-graduate programs:

  • Post Graduate Diploma in L.D. (1-year intensive mode)
  • Master in Leadership and Development – 2 years (1-year intensive mode; 1-year full time)

School of Education
The Schools of Education runs two Bachelor of Education programs:

  • BEd (Secondary) and
  • BEd (Primary)

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) program prepares students in specialised secondary school subject areas. Students who complete the program can teach at secondary schools in the Pacific.

The Bachelor of Education in Primary Teaching is a fantastic pathway for teachers who have a diploma in teaching at Sonoma Adventist College. It is offered in pre-service and in-service modes.

School of Health Science
There are two BA programs run by the School of Health Science at PAU:

  • Bachelor of Nursing (4 years program)
  • Bachelor of Midwifery (1-year program)

The graduates are eligible for registration with the Nursing Council of PNG.

School of Science
The school of Science runs two bachelors programs:

  • Bachelors of Science (4 years program)
  • Bachelors of Science Honors (1-year program, research topic chosen in consultation with the Dean of Science)

School of Theology
The School of Theology at PAU offer four programs in Theology from Diploma to Masters at the Koiari Park campus or with the affiliate colleges (Fulton and Sonoma Colleges)

PAU Affiliations, Campus and Colleges

PAU Koiari Park Campus
The Koiari Park campus sits at the foot of Mt Eriama on a 48-hectare land outside PNG Capital, Port Moresby. The university has a pristine, friendly and quiet environment. It is self-sustainable with canteen and markets on campus.

Atoifi Nursing School
Atoifi Nursing School is in the Solomon Islands. ANS is an affiliated campus of PAU. Its degree diploma programs are PAU awards.

Sonoma Adventist College
The Sonoma Adventist College is in Rabaul, PNG. SAC is an affiliated campus of PAU enabling them to deliver academic programs in Teacher Education (Primary), Business and Theology.

Fulton College
Fulton College is in Fiji run by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. It offers courses in Education, Business and Theology. PAU provides a pathway for Fiji students of Fulton College to advance their degrees and masters in Papua New Guinea and vice versa.
The courses run by the School are:

  • Graduate Diploma in Theology (2 years full time – Koiari Park Campus, Fulton Campus, Sonoma Campus)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Theology (4 years full time – Koiari Park Campus, Fulton Campus, Sonoma Campus)
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Pastoral Ministry) and Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry (4 years part-time (intensive mode, June/July) – Study Centre Lae PNGUM
  • Master of Theology (2 years full time – Koiari Park Campus)

Study Centre in Lae
PAU suns a Study Centre at the PNG Union Mission Office in Lae, PNG where a Master of Arts (Pastoral Ministry) runs for 2 months of the year.

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) Overview

The Pacific Adventist University is a tertiary institution in the South Pacific. It aims to educate the young people who wanted to pursue degrees in a Christian environment; and serve their church, or the private and public organizations.

The Pacific Adventist University was first initiated in 1981. The first intake took place it 1984 as the then, Pacific Adventist College (PAC Act 1983).

The PAC achieved the university status on the 11th of December 1997 and became the Pacific Adventist University (PAU Act 1997).

‘The act recognised that PAU had its own philosophy and its focus included all South Pacific countries.’ (PAU History Statement)

The university attracts students from the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and other island neighbours. Graduates of PAU are employed by the Seventh Day Adventist church, government and private industry across the Pacific region.
